Mr. Taro Kimura won an incentive award for excellent presentation (student category) in the Surface Science Society of Japan 35th Annual Meeting (SSSJ’s 35th Annual Meeting) on December 1-3, 2015.
His thesis is “Surface conductivity of ion-conductive polymer-electrolyte membranes and its effect on fuel-cell performance”.
Ion-conductive polymer-electrolyte membranes are main components of polymer-electrolyte fuel cells. In this study, microscopic phase separations of bulk, surface morphologies, and surface ion conductive regions of the membranes newly-developed in the university were investigated in detail by the original analytical methods. The effect of the composition/structure of the membranes on the cell performances was clearly demonstrated.
The award this time has resulted from the evaluation he won by the high academic value, large direct contribution to the application, and high quality question-and-answer. This is the first time that student from University of Yamanashi has won this award.
Mr. Kimura says “It is a great honor to receive the award. I will continue working hard on my research and hopefully more results could be obtained in the future. I would like to express my gratitude for all my laboratory members and my supervisor Prof. Inukai and Asst Prof. Hara for all their precious guidance and advices”.
