The paper by Mr. Shun Kobayashi has been selected as an American Chemical Society (ACS) Editors’ Choice.

2018.1.26

The paper by Mr. Shun Kobayashi (Supervisor Prof. Hiroyuki Uchida), Ph.D. student of the Special Doctoral Program for Green Energy Conversion Science and Technology, has been selected as an American Chemical Society (ACS) Editors’ Choice article on January 17th, 2018. http://pubs.acs.org/editorschoice/

The title of his paper is “Atomically Flat Pt Skin and Striking Enrichment of Co in Underlying Alloy at Pt3Co(111) Single Crystal with Unprecedented Activity for the Oxygen Reduction Reaction,” ACS Omega, 3, 154-158 (2018). He has, for the first time, clarified the surface atomic structure and the layer-by-layer elemental composition of a Pt3Co(111) single crystal from the topmost surface to the bulk, to understand the mechanism of significant oxygen reduction reaction activity on the crystal surface,  which he has published in his previous paper. This result is important for polymer electrolyte fuel cells.

ACS Editors’ Choice is a high honor, involving selection by the editors all over the world. Only one peer-reviewed article from all ACS journals (over 50 journals) is selected to be freely available (Open Access) every day. His comment is as follows: I am really honored that our paper has been chosen for the ACS Editors’ Choice. Although I have experienced many difficulties while studying abroad, I express my deepest appreciation for the support of my coauthors and researchers. I would like to work even harder and keep getting better.
